Snow preparations
Grooming frequency depends on the season and visitor numbers, as the snow needs time to rest in order to create optimal conditions.

Low season (May-August)The snow gets a lot of rest, therefore one grooming session a week is enough. Summer offers our best and fastest snow.

Peak season (September–April)High occupancy necessitates more frequent grooming, up to three times a week, and snow scraping when needed.

At Ski Dome, it’s always -4°C – colder than you might think. Dress in functional layers such as thermal underwear, a jumper or ski jacket, and tights. Don’t forget gloves and a hat or headband, and enjoy skiing with no wind or precipitation to worry about.

Sustainability

Skidome is located inside Prioritet Serneke Arena, where sustainability is an important part of the operation. Solar panels on the roof help supply the arena with electricity, and all purchased electricity comes exclusively from renewable sources such as wind and solar power. Maintaining high-quality snow conditions requires a constant indoor temperature of around -3.5°C, which places significant demands on energy use. To reduce our environmental impact, surplus heat generated by Skidome’s refrigeration system is recovered and used to heat the rest of the arena. In addition, the arena is equipped with seven geothermal heat pumps that provide heating and hot water.

Snow maintenance requires specialised machinery, and all snow groomers at Ski Dome run on low-emission diesel to minimise environmental impact. Thanks to the controlled indoor climate, the snow can be preserved year-round and is only replaced once a year.

Our ski wax, which we both use ourselves and sell in the shop, is fluorocarbon-free. Fluorocarbons are harmful to both the environment and humans, and will also be prohibited in competition contexts in the future. We would be happy if our visitors would use fluorocarbon-free products in our waxing area.
